Loui Eriksson May Feel the Pressure, But He\'s Ready to Prove Himself

BostonBruins.com - Loui Eriksson has been wearing the Black & Gold for two days now, during Captain's Practices at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington, as he preps for the start of Training Camp next Wednesday on September 11.

And for him, as it was for Jarome Iginla to don his new team's color scheme, it "feels really good."

On July 5, the blockbuster seven-player trade between Boston and Dallas featured Eriksson at the center of the deal. The 6-foot-2, 196-pound right winger racked up 501 NHL games in seven seasons with Dallas, notching 150 goals and 357 points, before coming to the Bruins.

Eriksson arrived in Boston on Saturday and Tuesday marked his second day on the ice with a number of his new teammates, including Brad Marchand, David Krejci Carl Soderberg, Tuukka Rask, Daniel Paille, Shawn Thornton, Dennis Seidenberg and fellow new Bruin, Jarome Iginla.

"It's nice to finally get here," Eriksson told reporters following the informal skate. "It's nice to see some guys here and go on the ice a little bit and skate around and just have fun."

Coming from the Stars in the Western Conference, Eriksson has played against Boston through the years but is coming in fairly blind, acclimating himself to a completely new city, fan base and teammates.

"I've played against them, for sure, but it's a brand new team for me and I'm excited to be here and excited to meet them too," said the winger.

"It's very nice to come in earlier, a couple weeks before, and see the guys before and I think everyone is really ready to get going here, too."

He may not have known any current Bruins until arriving to Boston, but Eriksson knows P.J. Axelsson -- and has heard plenty of good word of mouth from the former longtime Bruin, who recently rejoined the organization as a European Amateur Scout.

"He said a lot of good things about Boston. He really loved it here; it's a great town to play in and great fans, and it's a really good organization too, he said," Eriksson rattled off, about Axelsson's glowing remarks about the B's. "So, he had a lot of good things to say about Boston."

The winger has also heard no shortage of positive feedback from the Bruins he's met so far.

"They say the fan base is really good here, and they really like the players here," said Eriksson. "It's going to be fun to play my first game here, it's going to be awesome, and a great feeling. They've just been saying a lot of good things about it."

The forward is acclimating himself to the area, and will soon be experiencing the Boston faithful for the first time.

"It's just fun to be out there and play, and doing the things I'm good at, and that's scoring goals and playing well defensively too," said Eriksson, when asked what fans could expect when he hits the ice. "So I'm really excited to see the system here, too, and play in it."

So, with this new passionate fanbase in front of him, a highly talked about trade behind him, and new players alongside him, is he feeling the pressure?

The 28-year-old, standing in front of his new stall in the locker room, acknowledged the situation -- but didn't seem all that phased.

"Maybe a little bit, but that's how it is to play in this game - you have to have pressure on you," he remarked.

"And I think everyone is ready for it, so I'm just going to do all I can to prove to all of the guys here that I'm a good player."
