Jacobs Has 'High Hopes' for 2013-14 Bruins

Bruins Blog - Like countless fans right now awaiting the season, Boston Bruins Principal and Alternate Governor Charlie Jacobs is no different.

When the puck drops on the 2013-14 season, he will be in his 12th season with the organization in his current role, where he guides the strategic efforts for the family and Delaware North Companies' holdings in Boston, including strong community involvement through the Boston Bruins Foundation, which he helped found in 2003.

He has been a part of countless moments with the team throughout the years - the highs and the lows - including the disappointment of this past postseason's outcome. But Jacobs made sure to note in his season-ending press conference what the team was able to provide the community into late June.

"I couldn’t be more proud of the guys in our locker room, our coaching staff, our GM, Cam [Neely], everybody that touched this organization this year," Jacobs had said. "In speaking about us as an organization and how we aspire to represent the community, I thought we did an admirable job this season. I think a lot of people in this market and around the Commonwealth identified themselves with this club and the guts and courage it displayed throughout this playoffs."

"For a lot of us, that embodied what we wanted to be here in Boston after the events of the 15th of April. In many ways, I think we did our part. We fell a little bit short and, trust me, it hurts a lot. I felt like we had a great opportunity to raise a second Stanley Cup banner here next fall. It’s not lost on me that that opportunity doesn’t come around very often; I hope we can get back there soon enough."

Jacobs had also noted the expectations from the organization in the offseason, however short that time may be.

"We are going to have a tough turn around," he said, of the limited rest and training before the upcoming season.

"I was in the locker room when the coach addressed all of our players after our season was over. I can tell you that the mood in the room was very somber, but the message was this is going to be one of the shortest offseasons you’ve ever had, and I hope that our players are ready come September."

Now that September is right around the corner, like the Boston faithful, he's anxiously awaiting the competition that will unfold during training camp and how the new-look roster will develop.

It is under Jacobs' leadership that the team's current management group was assembled. That same group has worked to reshape the lineup, and sign core players, heading into 2013-14.

"Well, I’ll tell you, I like our team right now. I think that, with the addition of Loui Eriksson and Jarome Iginla those two wingers for us, really help fill out those first two lines," said Jacobs.

"I think there will be a lot of scraps and battles, so to speak, for the third line. And on defense, we’ve got some young kids back there. They played really well in last year’s playoffs. I hope they just take the next step right where they left off last season."

"I have high hopes," he added, of his optimism heading into the new campaign.

"The extensions that we made for Patrice and Tuukka; we reinvested in our core and tried to build around it."

"And, hopefully, guys respond."
